Caught in the act….of kindness!

Caught in the act of kindness!

Carter and Kiara know what community means! They showed up in a big way to help a child! Way to go you two! Enjoy the ice cream!!! The Silverton Police Department is still on the look out to “Catch em doin something right!” So, be ready!

An act of kindness or just going out of the way to help one another is what being a community is all about. I love that Silverton kids are learning this early! What a great way to represent our town!

For our part at Bledsoe Santana Team Realty, LLC, we want to help build a bridge between our kids, who often receive criticism because they are growing up in a substantially different time than when we were raised, and the police, who are the ones called upon to enforce the rules.  “Get off the sidewalk with your skateboard!” “Where is that kid’s helmet?” “Why are those kids running around the restaurant when I just came in for a peaceful dinner?”

We want our kids to see what we see – Good people protecting us. We want our police to see good kids doing good things, as responsible citizens. Starting May 21st, The Silverton Police are going to be on the lookout for kids doing the right thing. “Catch ‘em doing something right.” When they do, the officer will hand the child a card of thanks for being good citizens that entitles the cardholder to a free Friday ice cream cone or dish from the Main Street Bistro or Silver Creek Coffee Station.

Flipping For Silverton Gymnastics Academy!

Heart and Soul are poured out daily at Silverton Gymnastics Academy! This fairly new treasure has been gaining momentum since the Storey family bought it January of 2017 and it shows no signs of slowing down! Celia and Todd Storey along with their daughters Justice (Coach) and Ella (Gymnast) combine their love for gymnastics with their love for building up kids and families. The recipe is magic and has become contagious!

The whole staff genuinely cares for each little one that comes through their station and celebrates with them every accomplishment! The large school bell rings out as little arms tug on it, faces beaming with pride at their new skill! When the buzzer sounds, the room shouts together the phrase of the month. May is “I can, I will”. These new skills are not easy to come by either. The kids work hard and sweat for their prize and their confidence grows. Through it all, they never stop having fun! The coaching staff are truly amazing! They have made an art of making hard things fun and turning learning new skills into a continuous game. Kids rarely stand in line and are always on the move from station to station!

“I cannot get enough of coaching!  My coaching goals do not just include skill progression on the gym floor, but character development in life as well.   I think it’s very important to teach our children to be good role models, to build good character and learn important life skills that will help them become amazing young adults.  I believe in positive coaching wherein I teach the children to believe in themselves by setting, reaching for and attaining their goals.- Coach Celia Storey

The Storeys along with Coach Bryan Wilson brought this magic all the way from East Texas and Silverton is all the richer for them! Over 550 kids are currently enrolled in their program making an equal amount of happy faces! The bottom line is that SGA is equipping kids with tools that will impact the rest of their lives. From athletic skills to life skills young people grow in confidence and walk out every day just a little taller! Well done SGA, well done!!

Catch ‘Em Doing Something Right!

Catch ‘Em Doing Something Right!

We love the kids in our town. They are a terrific bunch, from the littles who grace us with their presence while in full Halloween costumes during the Goblin Walk to the incredible Silverton High School Choir that just won the State 5-A Championship. In fact, there is a sign in our office, attributed to Abraham Lincoln, that says, “No Man stands so tall as when he stoops to help a child.” (We must add that although the quote is 158 years old, there are a lot of women standing every bit as tall when helping our youth).

We also have the utmost respect and admiration for our law enforcement officers, the men and women who keep us safe. Officers across the country put their lives at risk every time they step into their uniforms. But the nature of the job is such that controversies happen. We know that kids see some of this controversy on television and social media, and the ugliness that can happen when valid citizen protests go awry.

In this day and age with people quick to criticize, pre-judge, judge, and condemn, let’s create a bridge between the kids of today (and leaders of tomorrow) and the men and women in blue. As the old song goes, “Accentuate the Positive and Eliminate the Negative.”
