Strangely Famous

Have you seen the occasional movie production while taking a hike down your favorite trail in the woods? It’s funny to think that the pristine forest you wander about could also be the stuff of Hollywood productions. Although, the temperate rain forest of the Willamette Valley brings with it wonder and mystery. So, perhaps it does make sense that it’s strangely famous. Silver Falls State Park is a place where you may see the occasional film crew. It’s odd to see trailers and cars with a camera mounted to the top of them. But, that’s the life of cinema.

strangely famous

Right now, filming is happening in the backcountry horse trail. It’s possibly a murder mystery. There is a crane, possibly to film the aerial shots. This area is notorious for filming. You may have remembered the series Twilight filmed there years back. With the sometimes foreboding fog of winter rolling it, it makes for the perfect set. Just in time for the spookiness of Halloween as well. Speaking of Halloween, the Goblin Walk is coming up! And, we are having our annual photo contest for best costume! Bring on your most creative and ghoulish costumes. We can’t wait to see you while you’re trick-or-treating this year! The winner receives a mini-photo shoot with the talented Maddy Traver.

The Willamette Valley has so much to offer in all seasons. And with the chills of winter edging in, it ushers in Halloween and that crispness that brings out the greens of the forest like you’ve never seen. It may also signal a time to get cozy and chill with your favorite cup of hot cocoa. Or, it may mean that the trails are less traveled, so there’s a chance to take some solo walks and enjoy nature by yourself. Either way, there are so many lovely signals nature gives us, to let us know the seasons are changing. Those signals are so precious, that even Hollywood wants to give it its 15 minutes of fame.

Minto-Brown Island Park

Minto-Brown Island Park is an oldie but goodie. It’s a little gem in Salem that offers so many things to do! Whether you’re an avid dog walker or love the amazing wildlife sanctuary that it is, there is a lot to choose from. If you’re looking to have a celebration outside, there is also a park shelter available for reservation! In the last decade, the brilliant bridge that arches over the Willamette River is also something to experience. Nearby there is also Salem’s Riverfront Carousel that children and adults that are kids at heart can enjoy.

Minto-Brown Island Park

It can be a park that offers solace or a place that you can socialize with friends. In fact, there are so many other wonderful outdoor places to visit in the Willamette Valley, too. Perhaps you’d like to go north and visit the Willamette Mission State Park. Another favorite is Silver Falls State Park where you can marvel at many waterfalls along the trail. Yet another is Scotts Mills Park, where you enjoy the water with a little fewer people around. If you’re into preserving these places, there are plenty of ways to volunteer, too. Like, volunteering to do trail maintenance from time to time. Giving back to something you may use frequently throughout the year is a great way to show your appreciation.

Think of these parks as an extension of where we live. We are so lucky to have all this access to nature. At BST Realty LLC, we love what the Willamette Valley has to offer and supporting our community. Helping Neighbors

Tough times bring people together. The last week has served up weather that has made people even more compassionate with one another. Community is such an important thing to us, and we support it in many ways. This time around, neighbors were helping neighbors to make it through the cold temperatures after a power outage that has been deemed historic in Oregon. Although this may have taken the wind out of our sails for a moment, our community quickly came together to make sure people in need were being helped. With the snow and ice hitting the Midwest, it reminds us also to be appreciative of what we have in the Willamette Valley.

Helping Others

For those who have loved ones in that part of the nation, we hope that they are safe and warm. We also are so thankful for our heroes that continue to astound us with their bravery and courage. Our firefighters and first responders that are out there continue to help people still in need during this time.

Some stories of compassion have been happening everywhere. From a neighbor knocking door to door to make sure everyone had a warm place to stay. To families offering other families a home to take shelter and have some solace. Also, there is the story of the man who parked his RV at Silverton Estates, so that way others could refrigerate their medications. Some people have even given others less fortunate a bit of money and a pair of socks in a hotel lobby. All of these things, whether seemingly big or small add up to making our community stronger. Because, we are stronger together.

At BST Realty LLC, we are here to help you navigate during tough times as well. We are problem-solvers and we care about our clients. It’s not short-term for us, it’s building long-term relationships that last. We are also an affiliate with the Homes for Heroes Program, which helps people like first responders get some money back when buying or selling a home. We truly appreciate how much our heroes have been there to support our community. Now, we know that some people are without power still. We will lead with compassion, especially during this time. And, we will all get through this together. With spring right around the corner, we can’t wait to see blossoms from this long winter.

Write Home About Deer Friends

The Willamette Valley has so much to offer, especially some interesting neighbors. In Silverton, there’s a deer herd that likes to make its way around town. To the point that it makes for a natural stopping of traffic. Kids “ooooh,” and “ah,” while adults might be tapping their thumb on the steering wheel. And, still, other adults also have big smiles on their faces at capturing a beautiful moment when nature intersects into their daily routine. Perhaps it’s a little perk when you drive home and find some deer smack dab in the middle of your yard…looking up cautiously and wondering what the lights and fuss are about from your vehicle. You may want to write home about deer friends!

Deer Sightings in Your Neighborhood?

Have you ever noticed a cute little furry creature munching on some of your lovely roses? Sometimes people think they are a nuisance, while others adore these creatures and find them a fun addition to the neighborhood. When has there been a time you’ve spotted a deer near your home? Or, out and about on errands? These little sights from nature are just one of the many things that add to the character of our gorgeous state. We’d love to see your photos of deer! Just @BSTRealtyLLC on Instagram for a chance to show your neighborhood deer off…perhaps they’ll become even more famous!

If you’re looking to deter deer from your home, then choosing plants they don’t think are very tasty is a good start. Or, possibly getting a fence that is higher than a deer can jump. There are also scented sprays that deer smell and don’t like too much. If you’re looking to attract deer, then putting out a few apples would most likely do the trick, however, who knows what your neighbors will think! There’s plenty of vegetation for deer to eat anyway in the lush Willamette Valley.

Whether you’re a fan or perhaps would like the deer to mosey on through elsewhere, your neighborhood is a special place to observe the wondrous wildlife of the Willamette Valley. If you’re looking for a neighborhood that’s more deer-friendly or one that may be a little less teaming with wildlife, give us a ring. Let’s figure out the perfect type of home for you and your family.

Treasure Hunt

The Willamette Valley is a precious place with lots of outdoorsy things to do, that’s why it’s called a wonderland. This includes one of the most treasured activities – mushroom hunting! As you may know, mushroom hunters don’t usually like to reveal their secret mushroom hunting spots. However, there’s lots of places everywhere you look to find mushrooms. Chanterelle season is almost over, but there will be more seasons right around the corner. And, a word to the wise, if you aren’t going mushroom hunting with an expert or aren’t 100% certain on identifying a mushroom, then just leave it be. The deer will thank you for it. Plus, you can take a photo to show off a new mushroom you’ve discovered, and maybe someone will tell you what they think! Either way, it’s like a treasure hunt.

Hint: This isn’t a chanterelle!

Silver Falls State Park is just a short jaunt from Silverton and the Salem area. Even though it’s rainy out, it could be one of the best times to go explore it. It’s a wonderful feeling to be in the presence of a waterfall, and it’s just one of the many things we are thankful for in Willamette Valley. At Silver Falls State Park, Winter Falls is a mere dripping spring, and now you can see it in full form. Winter Falls is situated between North and South Falls. It’s a great little spot if you’d like to do a half loop around the park.
